Why Tom Brady Is The Greatest Quarterback of All Time

Tom Brady. Joe Montana. Two names that are etched in stone as two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever grace an NFL jersey. Since Brady won his fourth Super Bowl in 2015, it has been highly discussed as to which player is better. It’s funny that Brady grew up in the Bay Area rooting for the 49ers and idolizing Joe Montana, wanting to be him. Well guess what Tom? You’re better than him and here’s why.

Now before I get into the raw statistics, let’s talk about some surrounding details. Free agency barely existed when Montana played. Why would this make things easier for him you might ask? It helps him because he had the same cast of guys coming back each and every season, therefore he rarely had to deal with a lack of chemistry with a teammate. It also helps when you’ve got all-time greats like Jerry Rice, Dwight Clark, Ronnie Lott, and Roger Craig coming back every season. Whereas, Tom Brady has had a revolving door of receivers his whole career. Brady has had a total of four Pro Bowl WRs/TEs in his career. That makes for a total of eight Pro Bowl seasons overall as Troy Brown had one (2001), Randy Moss had one (2007), Wes Welker had two (2009, 2011), and Rob Gronkowski has had half of the eight, with four (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015). So let’s keep that in mind.

When it comes to pure statistics, Brady is the clear winner. Also, don’t listen when someone says, “Well Montana played in an era where they didn’t pass as much.” While that may be true, it did not apply to Montana as he threw an average of about 33 passes per game as Brady throws for just two more at about 35 passes per game.
